Students performed before the Chief Justice of the United States, John Roberts and over 250 distinguished guests in Washington, DC.
The Performing Arts Department Playwright-in-Residence, Carter W. Lewis’s "Tom Sawyer Whitewashes a Fence" was performed before over 250 distinguished guests in Washington, DC. Directed by William Whitaker, Professor of the Practice in Drama, the 22 minute play centers around the hapless friends of Tom Sawyer, who have come to regret painting that fence. After which a mock trial ensued. Chief Justice of the United States, John Roberts presided over the case along with Judge Nina Pillard of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and Judge Raymond W. Gruender of the Eighth Circuit, in St. Louis.
The company of actors who travelled to D.C. are Brandon Krisko, Dwayne McCowan, Nina Punyamurthy, Carly Rosenbaum, and Zack Schultz as Tom Sawyer!
The play was commissioned by Washington University’s School of Law in celebration of their 150th anniversary.
