Alpha Psi Omega: National Theatre Honor Society
Alpha Psi Omega (ΑΨΩ) is the sole national honor society dedicated to collegiate theatre participants in the United States. Founded in 1925 in response to the growing interest in dramatic arts at colleges and universities, its mission is to encourage and recognize excellence in theatrical production throughout a student’s academic journey. As a national theatre honor society, our purpose is to foster a thriving community of passionate theatre practitioners and scholars, promoting creativity, collaboration, and leadership within collegiate theatre programs. Through our network of casts, we aim to inspire lifelong engagement with the dramatic arts and encourage the highest standards of excellence in theatrical performance, production, and education.
At WashU, Alpha Psi Omega fosters community among students and faculty by providing opportunities to engage with one another outside of classes and productions. Each semester, our Executive Committee organizes several social events that allow students and faculty to gather together and share their love of theater and performance. Our signature events include theater-themed holiday celebrations, coffee hours and picnics, crafting and sing-along parties, and theater outings. We also hold an induction ceremony for new members every spring. The officers on our Executive Committee also work with the Performing Arts department to promote the Drama program by helping to advise and recruit prospective students.
